As part of our commitment to providing the highest quality eye care, we invest heavily in leading technology; including our latest addition, an Optical Coherence Tomographer (OCT).
Kevin Hackett Optometrist was the first practice in the Midwest to offer OCT retinal imaging to patients; the ultimate tool for precise diagnosis and treatment of retinal eye disease. Whilst other tests show the surface of your eyes, an OCT differs in that it reveals what is below the surface of your eyes, much like an X-ray or MRI. It is invaluable in the detection and management of many eye diseases and conditions including glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and optic nerve damage; often before you experience any noticeable symptoms. This scan takes approximately ten minutes, and as the instrument never touches your eye, there is no discomfort.
Together with a full optometric examination, this information assists us to make important clinical judgements about your eyes, and provides a baseline to monitor for any changes over time.
